Keeping our Community Clean
June 16, 2022- Iqaluit, Nunavut

On behalf of the Community Cleanup team as well as City Council and Staff, the City is pleased to have our residents, businesses, governments, and organizations come together for this year’s Community Cleanup event. We thank you all for volunteering your time.

Approximately 1500 bags of garbage were removed from our public spaces because of the Community Cleanup – Iqaluit’s most successful clean up to date!
The City of Iqaluit would like to thank our partners for this event: the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Environment, Destination Nunavut (Economic Development and Transportation), Unikkaarvik Visitor’s Centre, WWF Canada, Arctic Ventures Marketplace,

Northmart Tim Hortons, Innirvik Support Services, Baffin Canners and The Snack.

We encourage residents and businesses to keep the community clean all year round by thinking of the following:

• Remind your friends and family members to put litter in garbage bins
• Pack out litter when on the land, ice and water
• Clean out your garbage bins regularly
• Avoid overfilling your garbage bins to prevent ravens/dogs from accessing your garbage
• Ensure construction sites are kept clean and tidy – including securing debris and materials
• Disposing your cigarette butts in proper garbage receptacles

A clean city is good for our mental health and lets our waterways and wildlife thrive.

The City would like to extend a special thank you to the residents who go above and beyond by organizing their own community clean-ups throughout the year. You take leadership and show that you deeply care about the environment and your community.

As the capital city of Nunavut, let us all set a positive example and ensure no trash is left on the ground.
