Recreation Activities, Programs, and Events

The Recreation Department offers a variety of programming throughout the year. 

Minor Soccer Programs (Summer and Winter)

Spring/Summer Minor Soccer Program: May 10th - August 26th, 2017

Spring/Summer Minor Soccer Sessions will take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays from May to August. This session will take place on the Indoor Turf at the AWG Arena!

Minor Soccer will begin on Wednesday, May 10th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm (Group 1) and Saturday, May 13th from 1:00pm to 4:00pm (Group 2).

Fees: $60 per child


Aquatic Leadership Training Program


Trainees participate in First Aid, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, and Lifeguard Certification training. Involves dry-land training, theory, and travel for in-pool training. Applicants must be able to swim and meet certain selection criteria. If you are interested in future opportunities in lifeguard training and want to become a lifeguard in Iqaluit please email or call 975-8544.


Qaumaniq Day Camp Program

2017 Dates: July 4th to August 25th.

Email registration for hte Qaumaniq Summer Day Camp will commence at 9:30am on Tuesday, June 20th.  Email registration will be open until 12:30pm.  Registrations will only be accepted through the designated email address: during this time.  Applications will be processed in the order they are received.   

In-person registraton begins Thursday, June 22nd from 5:30-7:30pm at the AWG Arena Lobby.

The Qaumaniq Summer Camp program provides an active daily schedule of fun, supervised activities and events for kids aged 6-12 years. The program begins at 8:30 am and ends at 5:00 pm. Activities include arts & crafts, baking, sports & games, hiking, story-telling and singing. Day Camp schedules are available upon confirmation of your registration.

New this year: camps will be run out of the AWG arena!

Camp Fees: $50.00 per week, per child. Lunch Supervision: $10.00 per day, per child.

Winter Break Camp 2017

Winter Break Camp 2017 is over!  We can't wait to see you next year :)

February 13th - 17th 
The week long break camp happens during the school break week. Break Camp is for kids ages 6-12. The camp includes skating, arts and crafts, baking, sports, and workshops.

Suilaaqivik Apex After School Children’s Program (October 11-December 15, 2016)

For children ages 6-12, the Apex After School Children’s Program offers the children of Apex an opportunity to develop social skills and participate in recreational activities including sports, games, crafts, baking and a healthy snack program.  The program operates from 3:30-5:30 pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays from October-December 2016 out of the Abe Okpik Hall
