EMERGENCY CREWS BRING LANDFILL FIRE UNDER CONTROL

 

A fire that started at the landfill at approximately 5:30 PM July 11 was brought under control by the the Iqaluit Fire Department in less than two hours.

 

Twenty five crew members were on site working to extinguish the fire. Heavy equipment was also used to access hot spots under the debris.  Public Works crews are continuing to deliver trucked water to the site. Crew's will remain on site until the fire is fully extinguished.

 

The City wishes to thank the Iqaluit Fire Department, supporting City departments, the Airport Authority Fire Department and Nunavut Excavating for their quick and effective response.
