CITY ANNOUNCES FEDERAL ROAD UPGRADE
MAY 14, 2018 (IQALUIT, NUNAVUT) – Iqaluit Mayor Madeleine Redfern and Council are pleased to announce that a Federal Road upgrade will begin May 21, 2018.
“Paving this area of Federal Road will improve drivability, reduce annual maintenance costs, as well as help enhance a positive image of the City, especially for visitors arriving from our international airport,” said Mayor Redfern.
Old pavement will be removed from Qaqqamiut Road to Ikaluktuutiak Drive. Paving is scheduled to begin the second week of July, 2018, and will continue throughout the summer.
Traffic flow will be temporarily modified during the construction period, which may entail one-lane traffic-flow through this area.
Kudlik Construction was awarded a contract for $2,544,866 following a tender. Funding for the project was made possible through the Government of Canada’s Gas Tax Fund, which provides allocations to municipalities for infrastructure upgrades. The Government of Nunavut has worked closely with the City, and provided the design work for the project.
